8 MILE.

No... not the Eminem movie, but that is definitely how far I ran yesterday! SO EXCITING! That is the longest distance that I have ever run at once in my life! I keep breaking my own records week by week! Once again, I could not have done it without Mimi running ahead of me... but I'm just so proud that I kept pushing on and made it to the end! We went out again at night because it is much cooler (it was still high 80's though at 8pm :/) and a little easier to run. On this run we decided to deviate from our normal 3 mile loop and run elsewhere. So we ventured out into our neighborhood in a different direction; we ran through the neighborhood to Meredith and then around Meredith, then all the way up and down Ridge Road and then headed back to our house via Wade Ave - the really hilly street that we always take to get home from the airport - just so you girls can picture where we are! Ridge was a flat road, so that was nice and easy, but running through the neighborhood and on Wade was difficult. We encountered several hills, and Mims and I are both feeling those today in our legs.
I figured out that at around 1 and a half miles I finally get my breathing under control. It becomes regular and much easier to breath rhythmically. So that is a good marker for me to remember!
This weekend we run in the Historic Beaufort Road Race 10K! This weekend is my 10 mile marker - but since I'm running the 6 on Saturday I think I'm going to run 4 on Sunday. We'll be staying down at Harkers for the weekend so it will be lots of fun! Drew & Travis are running the 5K - I'm excited they are running an event with us! I'll have my camera on me, so never fear - there will be photos that document the journey!
Thanks for all of your encouraging words girls! Larissa and I are getting down to almost a MONTH until our 1/2 Marathon!!! We'll need lots of love and support as we get into the home stretch of training in August! I'm getting nervous & very excited :) If I can do 8, I can do 13!

  1. So proud of you Mir! those hill = yuck!! But I think it is a good idea to try new routes sometimes and mix things up - sometimes if the run is too predictable it gets boring. And you're right! If you can do 8 -- you can do ANYTHING :) Good luck this weekend! Can't wait for the post about it! I do my 8 tomorrow - alone :( It is going to be tough since I had Brian for 6 and 7 - I am gearing up my ipod and will have to really mentally talk to myself...we'll see how it goes!

I find that at about a mile or a mile and half I usually "find my groove" i just feel like my breathing gets better right around a mile and a half and my body adjusts better. great job! keep it up!
